Profit taking in
afternoon trade capped gains on the bourses. GDP figures less than
expected and softening of inflation raised hopes put on the brakes
for the gaining Sensex. Market breadth was quite positive.
European markets were mixed in opening trade.
BSE Sensex ended up
516.19 points or 3.67 5 at 14,564.53. BSE Midcap ended up 133.44
points or 2.38 % at 5,742.29. BSE Smallcap ended up 109.34 points
or 1.61 % at 6,891.64.
Nifty ended up 146.00
points or 3.46 % at 4,360.00.
Top gainer BSE sectoral indices were :

Bankex ended up 413.28 points or 6.27 % at 7,009.69. Kotak Bank
ended up 8.79 %, Union Bank ended up 8.60 %, Oriental Bank
ended up 8.48 %.

Realty ended up 242.18 points or 5.10 % at 4.995.25. IndiaBulls
ended up 11.51 %, DLF ended up 5.35 %.

PSU ended up 238.91 points or 3.67 % at 6,747.07. Most of the PSU
banks advanced. The least advanced shares on the index are
Rashtriya Chemicals ended up 0.25 % only, BEML ended up just 0.88
% and Bongaigaon Refinery ended up 0.94 %.
None of the BSE sectoral indices ended down today.
