EIH leads gainer in group "A". Today's gain in Sensex was led by banking and metal stocks. Hindalco and Sterlite rose more than 4 % each, as metal prices rose on the London Metal Exchange. European markets were in green. India's wholesale prices index rose 12.63% in the year through 9 August 2008, up from the previous week's 12.44% rise, data released by the government after trading hours on Thursday, 21 August 2008, showed.

BSE Sensex ended up 157.76 points or 1.11 % at 14,401.49. BSE Midcap ended up 19.39 points or 0.34 % at 5,726.85, BSE Smallcap ended down 11.17 points or 0.16 % at 6,925.85.

Nifty ended up 43.60 points or 1.02 % at 4,327.45.

Top gainer BSE sectoral indices were :

• Metal ended up 197.02 points or 1.62 % at 12,363.93. SAIL ended up Rs. 6.35 or 4.40 % at Rs. 150.70.

• Bankex ended up 77.85 points or 1.18 % at 6,655.76.  Axis Bank ended up Rs. 30.80 or 4.75 % at Rs.679.40

• CD ended up 42.60 points or  1.13 % at 3,798.75. Titan Ind ended up Rs. 53.65 or 4.54 % at Rs. 1,235.20.

Only loser BSE sectoral indices were : 

• PSU ended down 6.62 points or 0.10 % at 6,710.47. Chennai Petro ended down Rs. 17.75 or 6.20 % at Rs. 268.40

• Realty ended down 0.09 points at 4,944.73. Ansal Infra ended down Rs. 4.65 or 4.38 % at Rs. 101.60

Top gainer stocks from BSE Sensex were :

• Sterlite Ind ended up Rs. 26.05 or 4.34 % at Rs. 626.75

• Hindalco ended up Rs. 5.50 or 4.26 % at Rs. 134.55

• HUL ended up Rs 8.80 or 3.73 % at Rs. 244.85.

Top loser stocks from BSE Sensex were :

• Satyam Comp ended down Rs.12.70 or 3.18 % at Rs. 386.40

• Grasim ended down Rs. 36.35 or 1.85 % at Rs. 1,929.10

• NTPC ended down Rs. 2.95 or 1.70 % at Rs. 170.55

During the week ended down 322.69 points or 2.19 % at 14,401.49.  BSE Midcap ended down 96.57 points or 1.66 % at  5,726.85. BSE Smallcap ended down  184.59 points or 2.60 % at 6,925.85.
